Bells: A Poem About Weddings

vintage couple getting married

Something old,
Something new
Something borrowed,
Something blue

Far away words
In another time
In an adult’s world
Not a child’s mind

But it’s funny to think
Time has crept up on me
In just a blink
I am almost thirty

And now those things
Will need to be chosen
With shiny rings
And vows to be spoken

It hasn’t sunk in
The thought of being beholden
Like a distant dream
That’s still a question when

But here I am
Planning my “I dos”
A woman and a man
In front of church pews

I guess it will be clear
When I look in your eyes
And see the soul I hold dear
Life’s sweet surprise

So for now I am going along
And faithfully floating
While my heart plays the song
Of Kathleen and Arvin
