This is the question that creeps in
On Monday mornings while I sit
Typing and clicking away on a tiny laptop screen
And along with my mundane tasks—
Checking mail, organizing files, pouring coffee in my boss’s flask—
My thoughts fly away
To dreams of a better day
Taking me to ‘what ifs’ and ‘could’ve beens’
Had I not chased around someone else’s dream
If I had instead, listened to the voice within
Would I have been living to work
Or working to live?

I am sending you electronic snaps. Poignant look into an issue that plagues so many people. I am currently in that place where I’m debating the viability of working on my own full time, so your words resonated with me.
Kathleen
Aww thanks! I am really happy you liked it. I wrote this years ago when I was really questioning my career path.

Definitely snapping over here and I’ve had the thought before at different times in my career journey!
Thanks for sharing your creativity ?
Kathleen
Awww! Thank you so much! I guess there are so many of us who have had this thought once in our lives. 🙂

Thank you so much, Sarah! I’m happy you liked it. 🙂

I like how you set up the poem through the setting and character actions. It flows smoothly into the final questions. As a college student still trying to figure out where to head in postgrad, work and future are highly relatable topics to read about. Thanks for this.

Thank you so much Macy! I’m glad you liked it. I wrote this a few years back when I just finished college myself. 🙂

Hahah, I was getting that “questioning life rn” college student vibe
Kathleen
Hahahaha that’s because I was really feeling that way back then. Guess it’s so obvious LOL
