Do you believe in signs? Or do you simply say that everything is a coincidence?
My birthday is looming and I just realized it’s close to Canada day.
This thought then led to multiple questions. Was my migrating here written in the stars? Or am I just an insignificant speck in the multiverse? I mean literally, how could you even write on a star?
I know I’m not alone in asking this. Just searching this question on Google gave me over a billion results.
Is this the right direction?
Oftentimes we wonder if we’re on the right path. If only someone could tell us to keep going, that this is where we’re meant to be. I remember watching a scene in a film about how the character found a locket in the snow with her name on it. She then realized that she was exactly where she was meant to be in that moment. For some reason that scene has always stayed in my head. As a result, every time I look for a sign, I remember that locket scene.
How easy it would be if we had markers like thatโlike beacons to guide our way. However, it’s not the way the world works. No one can tell you that walking down that road will be safer or that taking this path will lead to certain gloom. No one can really say for sure that out of the millions of options and possibilities in the world, this is the right one. That will always be up to you.
It can sound daunting, scary. So many options, but only one choice to make, only one life to live. But in a way, I guess it is freeing. No one can make your choices for you. You can change your life the way you want it. Only you can say what your destiny is.
Knowing this, when we look back at all the decisions we made that led us to the present moment, can we say that we are where we’re meant to be? We might not see a locket in the snow but our minds and hearts can answer that question truthfully.
In the end, we see the signs we wish to see
No matter what decision we make, the signs we see will always be based on how we feel. If we think we made a wrong move, everything that happens afterwards will have a negative impression on us. We will taint people’s comments, color their looks and glances to conform with how we feel inside. Similarly, if we feel we made the right choice, we will subconsciously find patterns in possibly random things or meaning in certain events. An example of which is how I took the proximity of the day I was born and the day Canada’s 3 colonies were joined as a sign that I was meant to be here.
Whether to confirm or assure, a lot of us look for signs. In that case, there’s no need to look outside or count petals on a flower. We only need to look within to find the answer. And for me, that’s an astounding yes!

I do believe in signs. I loved the last line, do not look outside for signs.. look within yourself. Great post!
Kathleen
Thanks Hardik! ๐ That’s true, the most telling signs of all are within us!

I agree! Just like How I believed that having my first born at early age is a sign that I should be more mature and responsible individual because someone is already depending on me ๐

That’s wonderful Abigaille. ๐ We see what we wish to see! And yours was a great example of how we can shape our own reality. ๐

I definitely don’t believe much in coincidences. Very few things are a coincidence but I do feel like we can influence how we perceive signs and miss the real ones along the way!
Kathleen
Yes, I do think so too. How we see them will definitely be influenced by our emotions, beliefs, and mindset at that time. But I think that even though we might miss some external signs, internally, we will already have an intuition of what’s going to happen. Sometimes we simply choose to ignore itโeither to our detriment or happiness. We must simply be more in tune with ourselves to better discern which we should ignore and which we should listen to. ๐

I believe that we all have our mission or destination on this world, that we need to reach. Maybe your mission is to be a doctor? Or maybe to move to Canada and meet there your future husband? Or maybe you came to this world to write a book about inspiration? We don’t know (ok, some people already know that from the childhood), but most of us need those signs to understand which way is the right one!
Kathleen
That’s true Sandra. ๐
Most of the times though, we seek for signs that are in tune with our thoughts, whether they are fears or happiness about something. I do think that the most certain signs can be found within. ๐
