I wonder about the bird
As it soars up the sky
Wind ruffling feathers
Does it ask why?
Or the cat as it lounges
Grooming its tail
Does it have plans
Or fears should it fail?
And the dog that barks
Flying right past
Does it think of the dangers
Of running that fast
What of the baby that sleeps
And wakes up to cry
Does it worry about money,
Or its dreams with a sigh?
Does there need to be a purpose
A meaning, an end
To all that we do
What, how, and when?
Or can we simply exist
And suspend our belief
In past or future matters
Can we simply live?
